A city or county must be a legal applicant and recipient on behalf of city and county departments.
Summary:
The JAG program is funding to assist state and units of local government in developing and implementing activities to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice system with an emphasis on violent crime, drug offenses, and serious offenders. Applications will be accepted for projects in any of seven purpose areas. The following is a summary list of the program areas defined by Congress: (1) Law enforcement programs; (2) Prosecution and court programs; (3) Prevention and education programs; (4) Corrections and community corrections programs; (5) Drug treatment programs; (5) Planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; (7) Crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation). The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute has determined to give proposals in the following program areas priority funding consideration: (1) multijurisdictional drug and gang task forces with a collaborative and comprehensive drug control strategy that includes: undercover investigation, direction and control of confidential informants, drug interdiction efforts, and prosecutorial support; (2) prosecution of drug and violent criminal offenders; (3) drug and alcohol court programs that provide treatment for and monitoring of offenders; (4) implementation of re-entry programs that for offenders returning from prison to local communities; (5) enhancement of juvenile detention alternatives to incarceration (JDAI) and disproportionate minority contact (DMC); (6) expansion of the Advanced Criminal Enforcement (A.C.E.) Initiative into multi-jurisdictional criminal interdiction task forces focusing on interstate, highway, and hotel/motel interdiction. Additional points will be given to proposals that specifically comply with a priority area. Additional points will be awarded to those law enforcement agencies that currently submit Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) to the FBI.
